Cookie Coach Company, a leading maker of snack and bakery products, with over 3000 UK outlets, has adopted a mobile sales and marketing system from field operations specialist, O4 Corporation. The Cookie Coach Company's 26 van salespeople will use a rugged, wireless PDA to enter information whilst with customers, cutting down admin time and providing real-time management information to head office.
The £150,000 system went live in November and will pay for itself in just 12 months through decreased admin. and increased sales, says the Cookie Coach Company. Van salespeople will save ten minutes per call currently spent on paperwork.
"Our previous, paper-based system was very inefficient," said Mike Levaggi, CEO of the Cookie Coach Company. "Our van sales people had to calculate orders manually and complete paper order forms and stock cards. They can now avoid this and spend more time with customers. We can also operate more efficiently by having real-time management information coming in from the field."
Real-time management information
The mobile PDA system sends order details immediately to the Cookie Coach HQ. This allows for instant feedback to manufacturing, providing a true bake-to-order process to meet demand. "This allows us to react immediately to increased sales of seasonal lines," commented Levaggi. "If we place a new line we want to measure take-up as soon as possible to schedule production – the new system provides exactly that."
O4 Corporation has worked with Sandpiper Corporation to develop the solution, operating on Intermec 761 ruggedised Pocket PC devices. The system uses the comprehensive O4 Field Operations Solution. The Pocket PCs are linked to the Cookie Coach Company's HQ with GPRS.
"We have been very impressed with O4's understanding of our business and their solution, which they have tailored to our needs. We are looking forward to working with the system and the savings it will bring," concluded Levaggi.
